About MCBC

Mount Carmel Baptist Missionary Church was organized by the late Reverend Richard L.
Faison. The first organized church service was held in 1923, in a rented space in Orange, NJ.
The church rent at that time was $32.50 per month. In March 1928, Mount Carmel moved from
its tiny rented space on Canfield Street in Orange to a larger rented space on North Park Street
in East Orange, NJ. At this time, Reverend C. Harris served as pastor. In December 1948, a
groundbreaking ceremony took place as Mount Carmel purchased a new church building on
East Park Street in East Orange, NJ.
In 1962, the city of East Orange needed components of East Park Street, in order to create a
newly renovated highway, known as route 280. Mount Carmel then sold their property to the
city and purchased another church building at 381 Cleveland Street, Orange, New Jersey.
During that time, Reverend Wesley Fleming was pastor; Reverend E. R. Faison, assistant
pastor.
After the untimely death of Reverend Fleming in 1964, Reverend Elder R. Faison was installed
as the pastor. Under the pastoring of Reverend Faison, several ministries were established:
Miracles Gospel Choir, MCBC Mass Choir, Young Adult Choir and Sunbeams Choir. Reverend
Faison served as pastor until his death in 1998. In 1999, God appointed Reverend Leslie E. Baltimore as pastor of Mount Carmel. During the
pastoring of Reverend Baltimore, several ministries were formed: Hospitality Ministry, Nurses
Unit, Voices Of Praise, Sounds of Praise Youth Ministry, Men on the Move Choir, MCBC
Bookworm Book Club, Senior Day. In November 2001, he ordained Julia Barney as the first
female deacon. In 2012, Reverend Baltimore’s health began to seriously decline, making it
difficult to function as the pastor and desired to retire the position. He requested assistance
from Reverend Wayne R. Stackhouse Jr, who acted as Interim Minister until the church could
find a new pastor. As time passed, the people of Mount Carmel prayed and asked God who their next pastor
should be. In February 2013, God showed them Reverend Stackhouse. On June 2, 2013,
Reverend Wayne R. Stackhouse Jr, was installed as the new pastor of Mount Carmel.
Pastor Stackhouse is currently the pastor of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. So far
some added ministries of the church have been, Team Shift, Seasoned Saints, ROSES
Women’s Ministry and Two Fish, Five Loaves Food Pantry.
Under the divine Leadership of God and our Pastor, Reverend Wayne R. Stackhouse Jr.,
who has the heart of a shepherd, Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church continues to be
an place of refuge, peace and serenity for all people. We are still continuing to hold onto God’s
Unchanging Hand.
